LOS ANGELES, Jun 7, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Actress Cybill Shepherd will join the cast of Showtime's lesbian drama "The L Word," which follows the lives of several Los Angeles women.
The show represents Shepherd's first TV series since the sitcom "Cybill" was canceled in 1998, the New York Post reports.
Shepherd will play a married mother who begins to doubt her sexual orientation in the show's fourth season in 2007.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, Shepherd has been a gay-rights activist, participating in rallies and marches, the newspaper said.
