ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Police say a 75-year-old flight instructor and his 38-year-old student were killed in the crash of a small plane southwest of St. George. The plane belonged to a flight school in St. George. The pilot was identified as Gary Hawes and the student, Brad Brian of Washington, Utah.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Traffic at Salt Lake City International Airport is back to normal after lightning struck about a dozen inbound planes yesterday. Spokeswoman Barbara Gann says ten Delta flights and one United Airlines flight were struck. Some flights were cancelled as maintenance crews checked on the planes.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert has kicked off his first annual Outdoor Recreation Summit by signing a long-awaited swap of state and federal lands in Grand, San Juan and Uintah Counties. The deal gives the federal government about 25,000 acres of conservation and recreation lands in exchange for about 35,000 acres of energy-rich land for the state.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The federal government is suing a for-profit college chain in Idaho and Utah because prosecutors say the school illegally recruited students. U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson announced the lawsuit against Stevens-Henager College today. College CEO Eric Juhlin says the lawsuit is without merit and the school will vigorously defend itself.
