SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Organizers of the Days of '47 Parade have turned down a float proposal from a Mormon faith-related LGBT group, citing too much potential for controversy. A parade spokesman tells the Salt Lake Tribune that it is their policy to turn down any float they believe will ignite political debate. But Mormons Building Bridges co-founder Kendall Wilcox says the planned float steers clear of politics.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Police say a small airplane has crashed in southwestern Utah, killing the two people aboard. The Washington County Sheriff's department says the Life Flight plane went down near the town of Santa Clara. The identities of the deceased are not being released yet. The FAA says the single-engine plane crashed about 11 miles southwest of St. George.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal auditors say computer troubles and bad accounting practices are leading to inefficiency in the storage of U.S. military ammunition, including ammo stored in Utah at the Tooele Army Depot. The General Accounting Office says depots across the country have incompatible computer systems and other problems that prevent ammo from being tracked and shared.
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) — Unified police have located a toddler who was missing after her caretaker failed to turn her over to authorities. The 15-month-old girl was dropped off at the home of a relative who then contacted police. Officers began a search yesterday after a court order was issued to take her away from her guardian and return her to her mother.
