PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The Portland Sea Dogs minor league baseball team's mascot is walking from Boston to Portland to raise money for Tourette Syndrome.
Slugger, a bipedal seal, left Fenway Park in Boston on Sunday at noon en route to Hadlock Field in Portland. He is expected to arrive on Thursday in time for the Sea Dog's 6 p.m. game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
The mascot is making the 114-mile trek to raise money for Tourette Syndrome nonprofits, including the Tourette's Syndrome Association. He is hoping to raise $20,000.
Slugger posted on his Facebook page on Monday that he had crossed over the border of Massachusetts and New Hampshire and was making good time. Information about donating is available at www.seadogs.com.
