MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) — The Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System is looking for a new charter operator.
That's because it's ending its agreement with Mosaica Education Inc.
Michigan Radio says the charter company has been running the school system for two years and was supposed to do so for another three.
According to The Muskegon Chronicle, the Muskegon Heights charter school board voted Saturday to end the contract June 30.
A new company will be sought for a three-year contract, through the 2016-17 school year.
The school system was created in 2012 as a solution to debt that put Muskegon Heights Public Schools into financial emergency and led to a state takeover.
The system's state-appointed emergency manager, Gregory Weatherspoon, says both Mosaica and the charter district board agreed the separation agreement was necessary.
