WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — West Valley City police are searching for two men after a stray bullet narrowly missed a 7-year-old girl asleep in bed at home.

Police say two groups of men were fighting near the girl's apartment on Thursday night when one of the suspects fired a gun.

The girl's mother says she heard six gunshots and had no clue a bullet had gone through a window in her daughter's room until she went into it.

She says the bullet left shattered glass throughout the room, destroyed her daughter's bike helmet and lodged in a closet wall.

Police say the gunman fled with another man, and a 19-year-old man in the rival group was shot in the leg during the fight. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
