April 21 - 28. AAA - EARTH DAY — AAA implements its annual car battery recycling program in honor of Earth Day. Whenever a AAA member has a new car battery installed and the old battery recycled, the auto club will have a tree planted in one of Americas National Forests in association with the Arbor Day Foundation. Upon the completion of this years recycling program, AAA Mid-Atlantic says it will have planted more than 3,500 trees in the last five years. AAA Mid-Atlantic will be accepting old car batteries for recycling at its Car Care Insurance Travel locations.

KEYSTONE ACTIVISTS MARCH — The Cowboy and Indian Alliance, a coalition of indigenous tribes, ranchers, farmers, Canadian First Nations and communities along the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline route, stages "Reject and Protect, an encampment and series of demonstrations around the capital. http://rejectandprotect.org/

NEWSEUM - PICTURES OF THE YEAR — The Newseum will open "Pictures of the Year," an exhibit that showcases dramatic, award-winning images of the people, events and issues that shaped the world in 2013. The photos are a selection of the best news images from Pictures of the Year International (POYi), one of the oldest and most prestigious photojournalism contests in the world. On Saturday, April 26, the Newseum will host Photo Day, when award-winning photographers Barbara Davidson, who was named Newspaper Photographer of the Year, Patrick Smith, Sports Photographer of the Year, and Tyler Hicks of The New York Times will talk about the stories behind their photographs. Photo Day also will include a photo scavenger hunt in the Newseum, and a program with Washington Post director of photography MaryAnne Golon, who will lead a discussion on underreported issues affecting women worldwide. April 25 - 27. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. USA SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EXPO — USA Science and Engineering Festival, which hosts student teams from colleges and universities across the country who exhibit sustainable projects and compete for EPAs People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Award. Awardees will be recommended for a grant of up to $90,000 to further develop their projects and take them to the marketplace. This years P3 Competition and National Sustainable Design Expo is co-located with the USA Science and Engineering Festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The USA Science and Engineering Festival is the largest science festival in the United States and will feature a Sustainability Pavilion where EPAs P3 student teams will display their innovative projects alongside exhibitors from other organizations and businesses showcasing their work in sustainability. 9:30 a.m. CEREMONIAL PROCESSION AGAINST KEYSTONE DL — Thousands of people, including musician Neil Young and actress Daryl Hannah, will join a horse-led procession against the Keystone XL pipeline on the National Mall tomorrow. The
ceremonial walk includes the presentation of a hand-painted tipi to the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian as a gift to President Obama. The tipi represents the Cowboy and Indian Alliances hopes for protected land and clean water. The formal
name of the tipi is Awe Kooda Bilaxpak Kuuxshish and Oyate Wookiye, both names given to President Obama by the Crow & Lakota Nations, respectively. 9:30am: Painting of the Obama tipi, the public is invited to add their thumbprints to the canvass.. 10:30am: Informal press conference with Neil Young, Daryl Hannah, and Cowboy and Indian Alliance members at the Reject and Protect tipis.. 11:00am: Rally begins with speakers from a stage on the National Mall.. 12:15pm: Ceremonial walk to the Museum of the American Indian begins. 1:00pm: Presentation of the Obama tipi to Smithsonian Representatives. 1:45pm: Ceremonial walk returns to the encampment, music performance by Native American hip-hop artist Frank Waln. 2:15pm: Closing speakers and end of event.

12 p.m. - 7 p.m. BREAK DANCING FESTIVAL — First annual Rock the Box Breakin Festival, sponsored by the Lab DC Breakin School, the only dance school specializing in break dancing in the Washington metro area. Kids as young as 5, teens and adults will compete for prizes along with top dancers from other countries and across the U.S. in three divisions: B-boy, B-girl, and a Kid competition for ages 5 -11. World-renowned professional breakers B-boy Float, B-girl Beta, and B-boy Born will judge the competition, and B-boy Tazk of The Lab DC will host. The festival will feature family-friendly activities outdoors and inside, including a live graffiti art exhibition by ECK Productions, dance workshops for all ages, face painting, health screenings, food trucks, and vendors.
