DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — Russia's foreign minister is promising a firm response if any of Russia's citizens or interests come under attack in Ukraine. The warning came after Ukraine announced a resumption of what it calls an "anti-terror" campaign against pro-Russian insurgents who are occupying buildings in the eastern part of the country.
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — An Australian official is downplaying the possibility that a piece of debris that washed ashore in southwestern Australia may have come from the missing Malaysian jetliner. It looks to be sheet metal with rivets -- but the head of the Transport Safety Bureau says an initial analysis indicates that it's not from the plane.
TORONTO (AP) — Canada is phasing out the type of rail tanker involved in last summer's massive explosion that incinerated much of a town in Quebec and killed 47 people. The country's transport minister says within three years, that type of rail car will have to be eliminated or retrofitted. The rail car is a type that makes up about 70 percent of all tankers on the rails. But those cars are prone to rupture.
ELLIJAY, Ga. (AP) — Under a law that's now been signed by Georgia's governor, people with a license can carry a gun into bars, some government buildings and places of worship if religious leaders say it's OK. A few hundred gun rights advocates gathered to watch today's bill signing by Gov. Nathan Deal. Also under the law passed this session, school districts would now be able, if they choose, to allow some employees to carry a firearm under certain conditions.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Police say they have charged a Connecticut man with making a call in November in which he falsely claimed an armed man was on his way to shoot up Yale University. Jeffrey Jones facing charges including reckless endangerment. A 911 call was received Nov. 25 from a man at a pay phone about a mile from campus who said his roommate was on the way to the university to shoot people. The call prompted a six-hour campus lockdown and search. No one was injured.
