The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-7.5 earthquake struck at depth of 19 miles. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, but it didn't know whether a tsunami had been generated. Earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea.
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A slow-motion disaster is unfolding in the Wyoming resort town of Jackson. A creeping landslide that split a hillside home in half is inching toward more houses and businesses below. The ground beneath the 100-foot hillside has been giving way an inch at a time since the movement was discovered on April 4. Officials say the hillside is unlikely to suddenly collapse like the March 22 landslide in Washington state that killed 39 people, but authorities are enforcing an evacuation order.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A week after a tense standoff between gun-toting states' rights advocates and federal Bureau of Land Management police, self-described militia members are still protecting Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his family. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada calls the armed campers "domestic terrorists." He says a federal task force is being formed to deal with the unrest. Nevada Republican Sen. Dean Heller says those who Reid may call domestic terrorists, he calls patriots.

A few dozen relatives surged toward the stage, hurling rapid-fire questions at the officials. One man tried to choke a coast guard lieutenant and punch a maritime policeman, but missed. The number of confirmed dead rose to 32 today when three bodies were found in the murky water. Some 270 are still missing.
PERTH, Australia (AP) — A U.S. Navy robotic submarine is on its seventh mission of the underwater search for the Malaysian jetliner. The Bluefin 21 has covered more than 50 square miles since it began diving into the depths of the Indian Ocean on Monday and so far, nothing has been found. Malaysia's defense minister says if nothing is identified in that area in the next couple of days, the search may be broadened.
