MOKPO, South Korea (AP) — The captain of the ferry that sank off South Korea has been arrested on suspicion of negligence and abandoning people in need. Two crew members were also taken into custody, including a rookie third mate who a prosecutor says was steering in challenging waters unfamiliar to her when the accident occurred. Thirty-two bodies have been recovered and about 270 people are missing.

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Searchers on Mount Everest are keeping up efforts to recover three Sherpa guides missing after an avalanche. The bodies of 13 others have been recovered. The Sherpas were preparing the route for next month's climbing season when they were swept away.

PARIS (AP) — Four French journalists held hostage in Syria for 10 months have been released. Soldiers on patrol found the four blindfolded and handcuffed late yesterday. All are said to be in good health.

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's former military chief and presidential front-runner has visited the Coptic pope ahead of Orthodox Easter. It was the first public appearance by Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi (AHB'-del fat-AH' el-SEE'-see) since he formally made his bid for the presidency this week.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is encouraging Americans to draw strength and inspiration from the Easter and Passover holidays. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says Holy Week and Easter are times for reflection and renewal. He says the Easter story is one of hope and faith that better days are yet to come.
