DANIEL RADCLIFFE IS BEMUSED BY APPLAUSE

NEW YORK (AP) — Daniel Radcliffe is still adjusting to audiences who applaud just because he showed up. Radcliffe has appeared in various Broadway productions and he's always greeted with applause when he makes his entrance. Radcliffe says when that first happened in 2008 with "Equus," he had to keep from laughing. Radcliffe says the English are unaccustomed to that kind of outburst. He says it's obviously a sign of being liked and that's lovely, but it's something he doubts he'll ever get used to. Radcliffe is now starring in the Broadway comedy "The Cripple of Inishmaan."

''THE RAILWAY MAN" - NICOLE KIDMAN

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nicole Kidman could have met the real-life person she plays in "The Railway Man" but chose not to do so until she had already started filming. Kidman plays Patti Lomax, the wife of prisoner-of-war Eric Lomax, who was forced into working on a train track from Thailand to Burma by the Japanese during World War II. Kidman says one of the film's producers interviewed Patti Lomax and sent her the tapes so she could learn her mannerisms like she was a fly on the wall. Kidman says she wanted it that way so she didn't feel intimidated before she started filming. She has since met Lomax over tea.

B.B. KING APOLOGIZES FOR ST. LOUIS CONCERT

ST. LOUIS (AP) — B.B. King is apologizing for the poor performance he gave in St. Louis on April 4. King's show was so bad, the audience jeered him and many walked out. The band kept missing cues and King led a singalong of "You Are My Sunshine" for 15 minutes. King's publicists say the combination of a very long drive from Las Vegas and missing his daily dose of diabetes medicine resulted in a performance that did not match King's usual standard of excellence. The statement adds that King "humbly asks for the understanding of his fans."

ALICIA SILVERSTONE PUBLISHES BOOK FOR MOTHERS

NEW YORK (AP) — Alicia (ah-LEE'-see-ah) Silverstone's new book about motherhood is causing some controversy. Among the ideas Silverstone advocates in "The Kind Mama" are a vegan diet and mothers staying in bed with their babies for a period after birth. She also suggests babies should sleep in the same bed as their parents, a move the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend because of the risk of suffocation. Silverstone is aware of her critics. She says the book suggests ideas that mothers might want to consider but she never says they have to do them.
