FERNLEY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a 63-year-old woman who was struck by a car in Fernley.
Trooper Chuck Allen says Sylvestra Alvarado of Fernley was walking across Farm District Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday when she was hit by a black 2007 Cadillac near Jennys Lane. The initial investigation indicates she was either in or near a marked crosswalk.
Allen says the driver of the car — 49-year-old Antionette Vann of Fallon — is cooperating with authorities. Her two children were with her when the left front of the four-door sedan struck Alvardo, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol is not believed to have been involved. Results of the investigation will be turned over to the Lyon County district attorney to consider charges.
