IN THE NEWS: SNOWDEN-PULITZER PRIZE
NEW YORK (AP) — National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden says giving the Pulitzer Prize in public service to those who reported on the U.S. government's sweeping surveillance efforts is "vindication."
Snowden issued a statement Monday through the Freedom of the Press Foundation congratulating The Washington Post and The Guardian on their awards for stories based on documents he provided. He became a board member of the nonprofit organization earlier this year.
Snowden says awarding the top prize in U.S. journalism to his colleagues is "a vindication for everyone who believes that the public has a role in government."
He adds that the reporters he worked with faced "extraordinary intimidation" and other pressure to get them to stop reporting.
Snowden adds, "Their work has given us a better future and a more accountable democracy."
IN THE NEWS: Airline Threat Tweet
AMSTERDAM (AP) — Police in the Netherlands have arrested a 14-year-old girl on suspicion of threatening American Airlines in a tweet.
Police spokesman Roland Ekkers said the girl, who has not been identified for privacy reasons, turned herself in to Rotterdam police in the company of a parent Monday and is now being interrogated.
The tweet posted Sunday said it came from an al-Qaida member in Afghanistan named Ibrahim and threatened to "do something really big on June 1." But the account's handle came with the nickname "Sarah" and a profile image of a young woman.
Apologetic tweets were posted to the account after the airline replied it was taking the threat seriously and calling in law enforcement.
Ekkers said the motive for the tweet is not yet known.
ON THE WEB: TAX EXTENSION
CYBERSPACE (AP) — The IRS tax deadline is just hours away.
If you procrastinated and think you owe Uncle Sam, you can request an extension online. The IRS website has links to file a Form 4868. But you won't be off the hook. Even with an extension, you'll have to pay a late filing penalty and interest on the taxes owed.

IN STORES NOW: SMARTPHONE DURABLITY TEST
NEW YORK (AP) — A study finds that Samsung's new Galaxy S5 smartphone is more durable than last year's model and other leading Android phones. But the iPhone 5s outperforms all of them in part because of its smaller size.
The S5 scores well given its water resistance and a sturdy back panel made of plastic. But SquareTrade, a provider of extended protection plans, gives the iPhone points for being just 4 inches diagonally, compared with about 5 inches for the Android phones. That makes the iPhone easier to grip.
All the smartphones tested have a medium risk of breakage, and differences between the various phones aren't major.
