ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — An arraignment is expected Tuesday in Anaheim, Calif., for two parolees charged with raping and killing at least four women. Anaheim's police chief alleges that the crimes were committed while the suspects were wearing GPS trackers. Franc Cano and Steven Dean Gordon, both registered sex offenders, are said to have been complying with the terms of their supervision.
LEAWOOD, Kan. (AP) — Federal hate crime charges could be filed as early as Tuesday against a white-supremacist suspected of killing three people outside two Jewish facilities in Overland Park, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City. Investigators say the suspect, 73-year-old Frazier Glenn Cross, has a long history of anti-Semitic beliefs.
PERTH, Australia (AP) — If conditions are right, searchers will lower a robotic submarine into the Indian Ocean to search for wreckage of the Malaysian airliner that vanished March 8. The mini-sub Bluefin 21 automatically returned to the surface on Monday when it exceeded its 15,000-foot safety limit. One expert says the sub search will also be complicated by silt on the seabed.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has taken Vladimir Putin's call from Moscow. But that's apparently all the two leaders agreed about. In their first call in more than two weeks, the White House says Obama "expressed grave concerns" about Russia's support of armed, pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin says Putin urged the president to discourage the Ukrainian government from using force against those protesters.
CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal judge in Cincinnati will hear arguments Tuesday on whether to stay his ruling on Monday that ordered Ohio to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples performed in other states. Judge Timothy Black ruled that the state's refusal to recognize gay marriage is a violation of constitutional rights and "unenforceable in all circumstances." The state plans to appeal the ruling.
