UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Assistant U.N. Secretary-General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco says U.N. monitors in eastern Ukraine are seeing pro-separatist protesters armed with machine guns and sniper rifles. The U.N. Security Council met late Sunday in an emergency session after Ukrainian special forces on Sunday exchanged gunfire with a pro-Russia militia in an eastern Ukrainian city. U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power and Ukraine's president are accusing Russia of being behind pro-separatist armed units and calls for referendums on autonomy.

PERTH, Australia (AP) — It'll take several days to analyze a sample of oil from an oil slick found not far from the area were crews looking for a missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner have detected underwater sounds. Meanwhile, on Monday, a robotic submarine begins searching the deep, remote Indian Ocean to try to determine whether those underwater sounds are from the plane's black boxes.

RED BLUFF, Calif. (AP) — Federal investigators are re-examining bus safety rules in the wake of last week's fiery crash that killed 10 in California. National Transportation Safety Board member Mark Rosekind says his agency is revisiting proposals to enhance fire and passenger safety in light of the tragedy. On Thursday, a FedEx truck careened across a median on Interstate 5 and slammed into a bus carrying high school students headed to a college tour. Dozens of students escaped.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — People on board a California-bound Southwest Airlines flight say their plane had to be diverted to Omaha, Neb., when a passenger tried to open a door midflight. The passenger was removed Sunday before the plane continued on its destination, arriving in Sacramento two hours late. A doctor onboard tells KCRA-TV that upon landing unexpectedly in Omaha, he and two other passengers tackled the man and held him until air marshals removed him from the plane.

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (AP) — Utah police are desperately seeking answers from the family of the mother of seven dead babies found in cardboard boxes in her garage. Thirty-nine-year-old Megan Huntsman allegedly gave birth to the children between 1996 and 2006. Authorities say Huntsman's estranged husband made the discovery while cleaning out the garage after recently getting out of prison. Huntsman has three daughters — one teenager and two young adults — who've lived at the house.
