PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's new House Speaker and a group of lawmakers and business leaders have visited a Massachusetts technical high school that has received widespread attention for its success boosting academic achievement.

Speaker Nicholas Mattiello toured the Worcester Technical High School campus Friday as part of an effort to get ideas for improving Rhode Island's career and technical schools.

Worcester Technical High has two dozen programs including in bio-science, allied health, veterinary science, telecommunications, construction, and advanced manufacturing services.

Mattiello praised the school for the partnerships it forges with local businesses, nonprofits and educational institutions, which provide students with real-world learning opportunities.

The Cranston Democrat was joined by Reps. Lisa Tomasso, Marvin Abney and Patricia Morgan.
