SUPREME COURT-WATER DISPUTE

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Wyoming Attorney General's Office is seeking dismissal of an interstate water rights lawsuit pending before the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing the state shouldn't be held liable for what its attorneys call a "trickle" of water at the heart the cross-border dispute. Montana sued its southern neighbor in 2007 and said upstream Wyoming farmers were taking too much water from a Yellowstone River tributary. By Matthew Brown. SENT: 530 words.

WSU MEDICAL SCHOOL

SPOKANE, Wash. — Medical officials predict an aging population and expanded health coverage under the Affordable Care Act will contribute to doctor shortages across the nation. In response to the projected need, Washington State University has begun exploring the feasibility of opening a medical school on its Spokane campus. "It's clear we need more primary care physicians," WSU president Elson Floyd said. The University of Washington has done a great job of putting doctors in the region, he said, but increasing demand in rural Washington state "is so great it may require two medical schools." OIL PIPELINE-PROTEST

NELIGH, Neb. — Opponents of a proposed pipeline to carry Canadian oil south to the Gulf Coast have carved a message of resistance into a Nebraska field in the project's path. The 80-acre artwork, which was done last week and reads "Heartland#NoKXL," is the latest protest environmentalists and landowners have employed against TransCanada's proposed Keystone XL pipeline.
