KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Blaine County commissioners in central Idaho have given initial approval to a plan to keep about 2,000 acres of farmland as open space in the southern part of the county.
The Idaho Mountain Express reports (http://bit.ly/1i9u5XG) in a story on Friday that the project would spend about $1 million from the Land, Water and Wildlife program to buy conservation easements.
That money would be added to $1.7 million in federal funds already awarded by the Natural Resources Conservation Service to buy the easements owned by seven members of the Molyneux family.
The family has farmed the area for three generations.
One of the parcels borders Silver Creek Preserve, one is next to State Highway 75, and four are near Craters of the Moon National Monument.
