(AP) — Federal investigators say they cannot corroborate a driver's claim that a FedEx tractor-trailer was already on fire before it careened across a freeway median, sideswiped her car and slammed into a bus carrying high school students, killing 10 people in a fiery wreck. They also found no signs that the truck driver attempted to brake before the crash.
BOSTON (AP) — With the Boston Marathon just over a week away, city officials have announced improved public safety measures for the final two miles of the April 21 race. The mayor and police commissioner say more uniformed and undercover officers will be deployed along the route. Last year two explosions near the finish line killed three people and wounded more than 260 others.
UNDATED (AP) — Federal land managers are confirming they have released all 400 head of cattle rounded up on public land in southern Nevada from rancher Cliven Bundy who refuses to recognize their authority. The Bureau of Land Management took the action after hundreds of states' rights protesters, including militia and tea party members, showed up Saturday to demand the cattle be returned to Bundy.
BEIJING (AP) — A total of 15 people are hospitalized after a train derailed in northeast China. Railway officials say the cause of Sunday's pre-dawn accident is under investigation. It says officials responded to the accident, accompanied by police and fire and rescue services. China has one of the world's most extensive networks of railways, but accidents are extremely rare.
BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) — Police say a single-engine plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a golf course in southwest Ohio. A preliminary investigation indicates the plane experienced engine failure after taking off from a local airport this morning. It hit a sand bunker before coming to a stop and rolled partially on its side on the green. The two people aboard weren't hurt.
