LAS VEGAS (AP) — George Strait won the top honor, entertainer of the year, at the Academy of Country Music Awards last night in Las Vegas. He took the fan-voted award for the second time — 25 years after he first won it in 1989. Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban were the night's top winners, taking three awards apiece.
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Animal control officers say two pit bulls broke through a fence in a Reno suburb, entered a neighbor's home through a dog door and killed three dogs inside while the residents were away. The residents of Spanish Springs returned Friday to find their black Lab, shih tzu and Pekingese dead. Washoe County Animal Services said the dogs were seized and their owner is facing a citation.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A man driving the wrong way on Interstate 580 in Reno collided head-on with another car Saturday morning, killing himself and the other driver. The Highway Patrol says alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash. Troopers say a 22-year-old man heading south in the northbound lanes struck a car occupied by a 71-year-old male driver and a female passenger. The woman was hospitalized.
SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (AP) — Lyon County sheriff's deputies say a woman shot and killed her adult son in Silver Springs. Deputies say while initial indications are that the shooting Friday night was in self-defense, the death is under investigation. The names of the two were not immediately released.
