NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a car carrying five people hit a curb on a dead-end residential street and flipped over into a creek in Queens and only the driver survived. Two men and two women were pulled from the vehicle and pronounced dead at hospitals. Officials say the driver is in stable condition at a hospital.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — As searchers continue to scour a section of the Indian Ocean for Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, Southeast Asia's top budget carrier AirAsia is withdrawing its latest inflight magazine over an offending article. The article, included in the magazine before Flight 370 disappeared, boasted that its well-trained pilots would never lose a plane.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Despite the threat of disruption and attacks from the Taliban, excitement is high as Afghans select a new president rom among eight candidates. Many people showed up to vote well before polls opened. With three men considered front-runners, nobody is expected to get the majority needed for an outright victory so a runoff is widely expected. Security is extensive.
YOKOTA AIR FORCE BASE, Japan (AP) — Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is in Tokyo this weekend to deliver a message of continuing U.S. support to help protect Japan's security. He acknowledged heightened concerns following Russia's actions in Crimea, set against tensions in Asia where China, Japan and other nations are locked in bitter territorial disputes.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — It's day two of the European Union foreign ministers meeting in Athens and the dominant topics are Ukraine and Syria. British Foreign Secretary William Hague urged EU partners yesterday to develop possible stricter sanctions against Russia should they become necessary. The EU has already imposed sanctions against individuals.
