CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Pinwheels will be sprouting on the grounds of the Nevada Capitol Complex to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month.
A ceremony is planned Friday in Carson City, where advocates to end domestic violence and child abuse will "plant" blue pinwheels on the lawn in front of the Nevada Legislature to bring awareness to the cause.
Sponsors say the goal is to educate the community on how to help children and families be safe, healthy and happy. They are also urging people to wear blue that day to help spread the message.
Officials say 3,500 cases of child abuse and neglect were reported in Nevada last year.
