RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada, Reno is gearing up to go tobacco-free by August 2015. a move supported by faculty and employee groups as well as student groups. UNR will join nearly 1,200 other U.S. colleges and universities that have implemented a tobacco-free policy.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A man killed in a Reno garage fire has been identified as the son of a NAACP official and brother of the local organization's former president. Ronald Feemster died Friday of severe burns, a day after he and two others were injured in the fire at a home in northwest Reno. His brother Lonnie Feemster tells the Gazette-Journal the family traveled to the UC, Davis burn unit to see him before he was taken off life support.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — An inmate serving life with possible parole for sexual assault has died at a prison infirmary in Carson City. Prison officials say 79-year-old Juan Mendoza died Saturday at the regional medical facility at Northern Nevada Correctional Center. Officials say he had a long-term medical illness.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tourists are taking in the view from a skyline-changing observation wheel that offers a unique look at sparkling casinos and distant mountains from high above the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Van Kim, from Phoenix, declared the experience "unanimously awesome" after standing in line for six hours today to be on the first gondola to complete the 30-minute ride on the 550-foot High Roller.
