SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Major League Baseball season may have started in Australia with those games between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks, but to most fans the real opening day is tomorrow when most clubs open play. That said, the home opener for the San Diego Padres is tonight as they face the Dodgers. Hyun-Jin Ryu (hee-YUHN'-jihn YOO) is pitching for the visitors against Andrew Cashner for the Padres.

UNDATED (AP) — The final two regional championship games for the men's NCAA tournament are today with Michigan facing Kentucky in the Midwest title game and Michigan State going up against Connecticut for the East championship. The winners will advance to the Final Four next weekend in Arlington, Texas, with last night's winners, Wisconsin and Florida.

SEPANG, Malaysia (AP) — Lewis Hamilton was the winner of today's Malaysian Grand Prix in a one-two finish for the Mercedes team. Nico Rosberg, the winner of the first race of the season two weeks ago in Australia, was the runner-up with four-time defending world champion Sebastian Vettel (VEHT'-ehl) of Red Bull third and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso fourth.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — Today's Sprint Cup race is being held in Martinsville, Va. The winner of the pole on Friday was Kyle Busch, who grabbed the pole with a fast lap of 99.674 miles per hour. Danny Hamlin was the second-fastest qualifier.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — IndyCar is opening up the new year of racing today with a stop in St. Petersburg, Fla. The pole sitter is Takuma Sato. Today's race marks the return to IndyCar racing of veteran driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who has spent the last 12 seasons driving in Formula One and NASCAR.
