PERTH, Australia (AP) — Officials say that while reports of debris keep coming in, there's no way to confirm or eliminate any of it as coming from a missing Malaysian airliner until ships in the search area manage to recover pieces for analysis. The latest debris I report today by a Chinese aircraft flying over the search zone for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish courts appear to be siding with Twitter in the battle against government efforts to ban the social media. In a second ruling against the Turkish government, a court has overturned an order for the social media network to remove an account that accuses a former minister of corruption. The former minister's lawyer says the order will be appealed.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is on the road so Vice President Joe Biden took over the weekly media message today, pushing for a minimum wage increase. He says fair wages boost the economy and generate worker loyalty, leading to higher productivity and less turnover. For the Republicans, Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski is urging Obama to support the VA Management Accountability Act to help veterans.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was mostly a case of frayed nerves after a magnitude-5.1 earthquake centered near Los Angeles, but officials say there was some broken glass, gas leaks, water min breaks and a rockslide. Southern California Edison reported power outages to about 2,000 customers following the quake.
ARLINGTON, Wash. (AP) — Officials in Washington state say the difficulty of searching the sticky mudslide debris that covers Oso, northeast of Seattle, makes it impossible to establish a time frame for completing the recovery effort and there's no guarantee of accounting for all the missing. Heavy rain since the slide has made things worse. There are some bodies that have been found but not recovered yet and not added to the official death toll of 17.
