CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) — The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma is hosting a powwow next month for students and community members.

The school's Inter-Tribal Heritage Club is hosting its annual spring powwow on April 5.

The event will feature a variety of dancers competing in different categories.

USAO associate professor of American Indian studies Lee Hester says the event draws dancers from all over the country.

Hester says understanding the interactions at a powwow can provide insight into Native American culture.

The event is free and open to the public.
