RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two northern Nevada men are headed to prison for conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.
U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks sentenced 50-year-old Bret Ogilvie of Reno on Monday to five years in prison and three years' supervised release. He sentenced 73-year-old Linwood Tracy of Fallon to nine months in prison and three years' supervised release.
Both men were convicted in December of one count of conspiracy to defraud the IRS.
Ogilvie also was convicted of one count of corrupt interference with tax administration and five counts of presenting false claims to the IRS. He also was ordered to pay $315,286 in restitution.
Among other things, prosecutors say the two men obstructed IRS tax collections by filing frivolous lawsuits and trying to hide money Ogilvie earned through his plumbing company.
