SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian officials are denouncing Moscow's latest military move. They say Russian troops have taken control of a village near the border with Crimea. The Ukrainian foreign ministry says Kiev "reserves the right to use all necessary measures to stop the military invasion by Russia." A Kremlin-backed referendum on Crimea's future will be held Sunday.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The focus of the investigation into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is shifting to the crew and passengers. A search for the Boeing 777 has been underway for more than a week. Malaysia's prime minister says someone deliberately diverted the jet and shut down communications with the ground, and continued flying for six hours.
NEW YORK (AP) — New York City's fire commissioner says he believes federal safety officials can soon start pressure-testing pipes in the basement area of two buildings that collapsed from a gas explosion this week. It's hoped they can find where the leak occurred on Sunday. The piping and meters will help explain what caused the blast that killed eight people.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Comedian David Brenner is dead. Friend and publicist Jeff Abraham says Brenner died peacefully at his New York City home Saturday. He was 78. Abraham says Brenner had been fighting cancer. Fellow funnyman Richard Lewis calls Brenner "the godfather of hip, observational comedy." Brenner was a frequent guest on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" in the 1970s and '80s.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The next generation of the Goodyear blimp is getting ready to take flight as the company retires its current fleet of airships. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. says the helium-filled airship is bigger, quicker and more maneuverable than earlier blimps. The company says it will provide a longer flight range and better aerial broadcast capabilities for event coverage.
