Officials say they've concluded that one or more people with flying experience switched off communications devices and deliberately steered a missing airliner off-course. The official called the disappearance a hijacking, though he said no motive has been established and no demands have been made known. It's not yet clear where the plane ended up.

NEW YORK (AP) — Officials say workers will continue to scour the debris from two New York City apartment buildings as if there might be unknown victims. The bodies of all eight people reported missing after a deadly gas explosion have been recovered. No one else is reported missing.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A rural Nevada county has settled lawsuits with two men who said a sheriff's deputy violated their civil rights when they were stopped for speeding on Interstate 80. The lawyer for one man says he got his money back.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican vigilantes fighting a drug cartel say Mexican authorities still need them. The civilian groups have been tolerated for months.

NEW YORK (AP) — A judge has denied a defense motion to dismiss charges against Osama bin Laden's son-in-law, an al-Qaida spokesman. The judge ruled yesterday that there is more than enough proof that would allow a jury to decide to convict Suleiman Abu Ghaith (SOO'-lay-mahn AH'-boo GAYTH) of conspiring to kill Americans. Prosecutors rested their case Friday in the man's trial. The defense case is due to start Monday.
