LAS VEGAS (AP) — A fire official says a pet dog perished but 11 people escaped injury in a fire that damaged several apartments at a complex near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jon Klassen says firefighters battled flames in a second-floor apartment after being called a little before 11:30 p.m. Thursday to the fire on Maryland Circle.
That's off Maryland Parkway between Flamingo Road and the UNLV campus.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately reported.
Damage is estimated at about $100,000.
Klassen says fire charred one apartment, and neighboring units were damaged by water and smoke.
The American Red Cross is helping residents displaced from four apartments.
