MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — A Wesleyan University student has filed a federal lawsuit alleging a fraternity house was negligent in hosting a wild party where she was sexually assaulted last May.

The complaint filed Tuesday names the Psi Upsilon fraternity and its local chapter as defendants along with the student who allegedly raped her.

University President Michael Roth says an internal investigation last spring led to the alleged assailant's dismissal from Wesleyan and sanctions against the fraternity. He says the university did not address the matter publicly before the lawsuit was filed out of concern for the student's privacy.

The complaint says the woman who filed the lawsuit has taken a leave from the university.

Psi Upsilon director Tom Fox said the fraternity is investigating the incident and takes reports of risk management violations very seriously.
