TORONTO – Children can make things so simple, reducing choices to basic consequences. Like a 3-year-old who donates her hair because she doesn’t ”want any kids to be sad that they have no hair.”

Emily James — along with her Rapunzel doll — recently had her long hair cut into a short bob by her uncle Matthew Collins, a L’Oreal hairstylist in Toronto. In a video made by her father, Richard James, the 3-year-old teaches about sharing with someone else in need.

“What I want to do is give them my hair. Because I have long, long hair. Just cut some off and give it to someone,” Emily says.

Emily’s parents recently approached her about cutting her hair, telling her how it would help make wigs for children with cancer. After they showed her photos of children with no hair and of wig styles, she became firm in her decision to cut her hair, along with Rapunzel’s.

“Sometimes, kids get sick and their hair falls out. And that’s really, really sad,” Emily says.

If you’re inspired to donate your hair, check out the steps and requirements at St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
