LINDON -- For as many years as a 7 year old could consciously do so, Lydia Maeser has been growing her hair out. Saturday, she cut 20 inches off to donate to Locks of Love.
"I'm very proud of her, this was her idea, this was something that she wanted to do and I'm very proud that she was willing and able to help out," said Ann Maeser, Lydia's mother.
Lydia was joined by 30 other girls from Arete Gymnastics in Lindon who each donated at least 10 inches of their hair to the Locks of Love foundation, which provides wigs to cancer patients who have lost their hair, including children.
"Some little person could have hair that's lost their hair during cancer treatment," said Ann Maeser.
In total, the gymnasts shed a few tears as they got their locks cut off and donated more than 20 feet of hair. The girls said they are eager to start growing out their hair so they can donate again.
After the hair was cleaned up, children from the HopeKids organization were invited to bring their families to the gym to for a gymnastics day.
