Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, March 01, 2014

The western third of the country will continue to experience wet weather on Saturday, while a very active weather system will take shape over the central and eastern U.S.

A cold frontal boundary will extend from the central Rockies, across the southern Plains and over the Great Lakes on Saturday, as a very cold air mass will settle in over the region. As this cold air moves over the area, a low pressure system will usher moderate to heavy precipitation over a handful of states. Ice storms will be possible from the southern and central Plains to the Ohio Valley, while a swath of heavy snow showers will move across the northern Plains, the Upper Midwest, the Great Lakes and parts of the Mid-Atlantic. Rain will also develop across central Texas, the lower Mississippi Valley and the lower Tennessee Valley. Meanwhile, the majority of the Southeast will stay clear of precipitation.

Out west, several waves of low pressure will move across the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. Heavy snow will be possible across the Rockies, while rainy weather will move across lower elevations in Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Along the West Coast, A low pressure system will inch southeastward along the California coast, as flash floods will continue to be a threat in portions of southern California. Heavy snow is also expected over parts of the Sierra Nevadas. To the north, an onshore flow will usher rainy weather across Oregon and Washington, while heavy snow is expected across the Cascades.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday have ranged from a morning low of -33 degrees at Pellston, Mich. to a high of 82 degrees at San Angelo, Texas
