LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — More than 16,000 University of Kentucky employees may have been affected by a bank error that resulted in paychecks not being posted to bank accounts.

The university scrambled Friday to resolve the problem and said some of the paychecks at least should be posted by the end of the day.

UK said PNC Bank, which handles payroll posting, had an error that resulted in the problem.

A message to employees Friday afternoon said prepaid debit cards would be issued for pay advances to be deducted from the next paycheck. The message also said PNC would cash a personal check up to $200 for those affected, and a university call center was set up to field questions.

The university said in a news release that it would make sure overdrafts, nonsufficient fund charges and late fees are covered.
