SAN SIMEON, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 has occurred near California's central coast.
The USGS says the 10:52 a.m. Thursday temblor was centered 23 miles northwest of San Simeon and occurred at a depth of six miles.
A similar offshore quake occurred Feb. 6 about nine miles southwest of San Simeon. That tremor was felt on shore in some areas but no damage was reported.
The region was hit hard on Dec. 22, 2003, by a magnitude-6.6 earthquake that killed two women in a building collapse.
