GOODRICH, Mich. (AP) — A teacher is fighting a Michigan school board's decision to fire her after cellphone video recorded a 10-year-old student with a form of autism with his body stuck in a classroom chair.
The video was recorded in November at Oaktree Elementary in Goodrich and recently released to WJRT-TV by Patrick Greenfelder, a lawyer for the boy's mother. Greenfelder says the teacher and principal taunted the student, who has Asperger's syndrome.
Greenfelder tells The Detroit News the video was made by the teacher, whose actions are being investigated.
The principal resigned. The school board voted 5-1 at a January meeting to fire the teacher and a hearing is expected after the district completes its probe.
Superintendent Scott Bogner tells the Detroit Free Press he can't discuss details of the case.
