Meth Arrest-Breaking Bad
CHICAGO (AP) — A suburban Chicago man accused of operating a methamphetamine lab appears in his booking photo wearing a T-shirt from the television show "Breaking Bad."
Daniel Kowalski's mug shot shows him wearing a T-shirt for the fictional Los Pollos Hermanos chicken restaurant depicted in the AMC show about a methamphetamine manufacturer.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office says deputies acting on a tip checked Kowalski's home Monday. They found beakers, burners, chemicals and instructions for making meth in the house in unincorporated La Grange Highlands. Psychedelic mushrooms were also recovered.
The 21-year-old Kowalski is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine manufacturing materials and precursors. He was arrested in July 2013 on similar charges.
Kowalski's bond was set Wednesday at $100,000. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.
Downton Abbey-Winterthur
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Officials at the Winterthur Museum in Delaware say an upcoming exhibit of costumes from the hit British television drama "Downton Abbey" could turn out to be the most popular in history of the former du Pont family country estate.
The exhibit, which opens Saturday and runs through January 2015, will offer visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the design and creation of the period fashions that are a focal point of the television show and a comparison of country house life in Britain and the United States.
Winterthur director David Roselle said Wednesday that he expects attendance for the exhibit will be the largest in Winterthur history.
In addition to 40 historically inspired costumes, the exhibit includes photographs, lectures, workshops and other events.
Crosswalk Birth
NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City woman and her newborn are doing well after the baby girl made a surprise entrance on a busy street.
The open-air birth happened Monday afternoon on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
According to New York's Fox 5 News, the woman left her building to go to the hospital and her doorman tried to hail a taxi for her. But the baby couldn't wait, and the woman lowered herself onto the ground in the crosswalk.
One witness told the TV station, "She was like, 'Oh my God, the baby's coming.'"
Several people stopped to help until police and medics arrived. Women offered scarves to wrap the baby.
An ambulance took the mother and baby to nearby Lenox Hill Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman says they went home Wednesday.
Marvel Heroes-NY
NEW YORK (AP) — New York will become home to the "flawed heroes of Hell's Kitchen."
Four of Marvel's characters will come to life in a live-action series that will be filmed principally in the state and aired on Netflix.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, The Walt Disney Co., Marvel and Netflix.
The project is scheduled to start filming in the summer. It will feature the characters Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
It's the largest film or television production project commitment in New York's history.
Marvel and Netflix had announced a deal in November for the programming, which is slated to take the form of four series. Each series will have 13 one-hour programs. There also will be a miniseries.
The programs are slated to start streaming next year.
Comics-Wolverine's Debut
UNDATED (AP) — The original art for Wolverine's first appearance will be auctioned in May to benefit an initiative that helps comic book creators in times of financial need.
Heritage Auctions says the artwork drawn by Herb Trimpe 40 years ago for "The Incredible Hulk" No. 180 was long thought lost until the person he gave it to contacted them.
Heritage Vice President Todd Hignite said Wednesday he was astounded to see the full-page art in such pristine condition. The sale will benefit the Hero Initiative.
Trimpe said he gave the ink, graphite and blue pencil drawing to a visitor in 1983 as a gift.
Marvel Entertainment's Wolverine has become one of comics' enduring and best-known characters, appearing in several solo series and as a member of the X-Men and Avengers.
Giant Marilyn
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) — A massive statue of Marilyn Monroe that has turned heads for two years in Palm Springs is headed east.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the 26-foot-tall, 34,000-pound statue will be transported in April from California to Hamilton, N.J., where it will be part of an exhibit honoring its designer, Seward Johnson.
A going away party, open to the public, is planned for March 27.
The statue of the "Some Like it Hot" star arrived in the desert resort city in 2012.
The sculpture depicts Monroe trying to push down her billowing skirt in her memorable scene in the "Seven Year Itch."
The "Forever Marilyn" statue, on loan from The Sculpture Foundation, was previously in Chicago.
Palm Springs officials say they hope to eventually lure Marilyn back.
