KINSHASA, Congo (AP) - Colleagues say a journalist covering military operations in eastern Congo has been killed in an ambush.

Jacques Kikuni, head of the Muungano radio station, said 30-year-old Germain Kennedy Muliwavyo died after being shot in the head and stomach during Saturday's ambush 60 kilometers outside of Beni. Two other journalists were injured but are expected to survive. Hospital officials confirmed the death and injuries.

Kikuni said the attack was apparently carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces rebel group, which was formed in the 1990s by Ugandan Muslims who felt sidelined by the policies of Uganda's president.

The rebels have been blamed for a December attack that killed at least 21 people.

Congo's government spokesman said Friday the army had killed more than 200 ADF rebels in a recent offensive.
