There is a lot of information out there when it comes to greenhouses, as well as many different types. All of them must be managed year round - but nothing beats having the fresh product from your garden every day of the year. These are some important things to remember if your interested in building your own!

1. Under plastic or glass indoor temperatures inside a cold frame, low tunnel or greenhouse will be 20-40 degrees F above the outdoor temperature. 2. Without supplemental heat, nighttime temperatures inside a structure may only be a few degrees above the outdoor temperature, 3. To conserve heat and reduce costs, there are several methods of using localized heat and insulation including using a row cover or heat cable, Building low tunnels inside of a high tunnel, putting in heat absorbing materials including water containers, rocks, and others. Manure, compost and air circulation are also important factors to take into consideration.

Hobby greenhouses can be fun, but they require constant attention and can be very expensive. Pests and diseases are still an issue as Greenhouses mimic a tropical environment.
