This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
A guiding principle for Alan Davis of i5 Services in Bountiful is that you cannot manage what you cannot measure. With his background in recovery auditing and the study of historical payables and receivables, it's not surprising he started this business to help other businesses improve their operations, therefore improving their bottom line.
Alan works within company systems to help them understand and improve their operations, using his five-step process: identify, inform, improve, implement and institutionalize. One thing he identified early in his career is that systems don't talk to each other, which is one major cause of problems. He's created a software program where, without addressing sales or top line, he can actually help improve the bottom line.
With his 20 employees at i5 Services, Alan is committed to helping companies improve their bottom line 1 to 3 percent in annual revenue. He has a keen understanding of how companies without systems in place duplicate payments and slow down processing invoices, which could mean not pinpointing a cash position they can leverage to take advantage of discounts.
Alan works directly with CEOs and CFOs to establish true transparency and create tools designed to help companies drive business forward. They develop applications and performance dashboards to collect key performance indicators. At i5 Services, their software tools are connecting all sources together so business owners can identify this crucial information on a daily basis.
Alan believes a company should have a past, present and future view of their business operations every day. That's why he enjoys working directly with the CFO to create a true transparency with his systems. Nothing excites i5 Services more than when they get a call from one of their clients saying they've reached their profit margin goal and they cite i5 Services as the reason. This is why Alan feels passionate about his company and what he's doing.
i5 Services is on a growth curve. Not only have they established a national presence, but they're also working internationally with development teams in India and Macedonia. They plan to continue innovating and changing processes.
