KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) - An American man has been detained at a Nepal airport after seven bullets were found in his baggage, police said Monday.

The man, identified as Leonard John David Rubin, 39, from Washington, D.C., has been in custody since Saturday, police official Rewati Dhakal said. Police had earlier said he was from Alaska.

Rubin arrived in Nepal on Friday and was planning to board a domestic flight the following day in the capital, Katmandu, when security guards found the bullets in his luggage, Dhakal said.

Dhakal said Rubin faces charges of violating the Public Offense Act. Government Administrator Basanta Raj Gautam said Rubin could face up to six months in prison and a 10,000 rupees ($100) fine if convicted.

Calls to the U.S. Embassy seeking comment were not immediately returned Monday.
