May 25--Movie star Debbie Reynolds will be the new keynote speaker at this year's YWCA Tribute to Women. The event is scheduled June 15.

Ann Curry from NBC's "Today Show" was originally scheduled to speak. Due to recent changes at the show with Katie Couric joining CBS, YWCA Executive Director Brandi Moore said Curry is unable to attend. Reynolds will take Curry's place.

"The Tribute to Women honors exceptional women in our community who have made significant impact in the community, their field of work or their personal life," according to a YWCA press release.

Reynolds' memorable accomplishments include more than 30 motion pictures, two Broadway shows and two TV series. Her films include "Singin' In The Rain," "How The West Was Won" and the "The Unsinkable Molly Brown."

"On Friday, we confirmed that Debbie Reynolds would be the speaker," Moore said. "We are really excited. Reynolds has a feel for all age groups. She will be funny and entertaining for all."

Reynolds' appearance is being underwritten by St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center.

Tickets cost $50 each and are currently on sale. Those already purchased for Ms. Curry's appearance will be honored. The event will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6.

Proceeds from the event go directly to the YWCA and its programs including the Family Crisis Shelter, Child Counseling, two Childcare Centers and Warm Water Aquatics. Each year, the YWCA serves more than 2,000 members of the community, according to its press release.

Corporate tables and other sponsorships are still available. For more information, please contact the Pueblo YWCA at 542-6904.
