LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Nearly a week after an eastern Kentucky animal shelter burned, crews have found a cat alive in the rubble.
Lexington Humane Society Director of Development Madison Carey says Freckles the cat was found Thursday in the remains of the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter by an insurance investigator. The blaze on Nov. 29 killed about a dozen dogs and cats.
Carey says Freckles is being treated by the agency's staff veterinarian for severe burns and breathing problems, but is expected to survive.
Shelter volunteer Theresa Martin has said officials aren't sure what caused the fire.
