WINGATE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in North Carolina have arrested two men in a pair of shooting deaths near Wingate University that prompted a campus lockdown.
Wingate police and Union County sheriff's deputies arrested two Marshville men shortly before midnight Wednesday at an apartment in Monroe.
Daniel Steven Sheerer and Tony Antwone Knotts are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery. It wasn't immediately clear whether they have lawyers.
The names of the shooting victims haven't been released. A third person was flown to a hospital after the shootings.
School officials locked down the campus shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday and lifted the lockdown about two hours later.
School officials say apparently no student or university employee was involved.
