LONDON (AP) - A man convicted of murdering a wealthy London woman whose body was found stuffed in a car trunk months after her disappearance has received a life sentence requiring him to serve a minimum of 27 years in prison.
Rakesh Bhayani was sentenced Thursday for the murder of Carole Waugh, who had been described in court as a lonely woman.
Police had said the 41-year-old Bhayani was a conman who killed Waugh to gain control of her assets.
During the trial, the jury heard allegations that Waugh had worked as an amateur escort.
A second defendant, 48-year-old Nicholas Kutner, was ordered to serve 13 years in prison after he admitted conspiracy to commit fraud.
A third defendant was acquitted of that charge.
