BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) - British Prime Minister David Cameron has appealed to foreign businesses to invest in Northern Ireland despite its imperfect peace.
Cameron told a Belfast audience of 120 existing investors and 55 potential investors that Northern Ireland was second only to London in its success at wooing foreign corporations to the United Kingdom.
Friday's conference at the city's new Titanic tourist attraction was overshadowed by violence blamed on Irish Republican Army extremists opposed to the British territory's 1998 peace accord.
Two men were shot to death in separate attacks this week. Police announced Friday they had discovered a mortar aimed at a police station in Londonderry, Northern Ireland's second-largest city.
Cameron joined the Catholic and Protestant leaders of Northern Ireland's 6-year-old unity government to condemn the violence.
