PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh driver is in stable condition after his car crashed, went airborne, flipped and came to rest upside down in a fountain.

The crash happened Thursday at about 6 p.m. in front of the Highland Park Reservoir.

Police say the man struck a parked car several blocks away and continued traveling toward the reservoir. His vehicle crossed a sidewalk and a grassy area, went between two pillars and struck a sloped wall around the fountain's reflecting pool. Police say the wall appears to have served as a ramp, causing the car to fly into the air, flip and land on its roof in the center of the fountain.

Police are investigating whether the driver suffered a medical emergency before the crash. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian.
