ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say two people were shot near the Georgia Dome just before the Falcons' first regular season home game and are hospitalized in stable condition.

Department spokesman John Chafee says a man was shot in the leg and a woman was shot in the arm Sunday afternoon about three blocks south of the dome, where thousands gathered to watch the Falcons play the St. Louis Rams.

Chafee says just before the shooting, the victims argued with the person who fired the shots at a nearby gas station and were shot as they left. No arrests have been made.

Tailgaters gathered near the dome Sunday, but police aren't sure whether the victims were headed to the game.

Police say a call on the shooting came in around 12:35 p.m. Kickoff was at 1 p.m.
