PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - An 8-year-old boy who fled to a neighbor's home during an attempted robbery at his family's Detroit-area apartment told a 911 dispatcher that a gunman forced his mother to the floor.
The 911 call was made shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday and was released Thursday by the Oakland County sheriff's department. In it, the boy describes the scene at his home in Pontiac, about 20 miles north of Detroit.
"The dude came to my house with a gun and told my mama to lay down," said the boy, whose name was not released. "I'm at a neighbor's house and the dude is at my house by the pool. It's the first house where cars is at."
"Do you want me to stay here?" the boy asked. "Yes, yes I do," the dispatcher said.
When asked his age, the boy replied: "Eight, and I'm still short."
It was not clear who dialed 911.
A woman at the home where the call was made told the dispatcher she didn't know what was going on.
"The little boy just beat on my door and asked for help and I let him in," she said.
The boy's mother told investigators that two men entered her apartment and forced her to the floor at gunpoint, according to the sheriff's department. The men demanded money and went through her purse and kitchen cabinets, but found nothing of value and fled, the boy's mother said.
No one was injured, but three other children were in the apartment at the time of the robbery.
Police said no arrests have been made.
